Statement on the passing of Professor Arthouros Zervos, strategic advisor for the Beyond Fossil Fuels campaign steering committee

30 July 2024 – It is with great sadness that we received the news that Professor Arthouros Zervos has passed away in Athens last night.

Since January 2020, Arthouros has been a non-voting member of the campaign steering committee for Europe Beyond Coal, and later Beyond Fossil Fuels.

Mahi Sideridou, Managing Director at Beyond Fossil Fuels said: “From all the supporters of renewable energy, very few understand the technology, its policy framework and the power sector as well as Arthouros. Over the last four years, Arthouros has volunteered his time and invaluable knowledge to our NGO and think tank coalition efforts. We thank him for his warmth, drive and insights, and send our condolences to his son Constantinos, his family, his friends and the thousands of colleagues that he has worked with throughout his prolific career. We pledge to continue building on the solid renewable energy foundation that Arthouros established, in order to speed up the transition to a fossil-free, fully renewables-based European power system by 2035.”
